About the Team and League »
About the Team and League Spending warm summer nights at the ballpark has been a tradition for generations. Beginning in 1929, fans and families from Macon and all of Middle Georgia have come to Historic Luther Williams Field to enjoy the best that baseball has had to offer. The Peach State League was founded with one goal in mind…to bring successful baseball back to Macon and Historic Luther Williams Field. To accomplish this goal, The Peach State League developed four teams that make up the League. Macon’s entry in the Peach State League, the Macon Pinetoppers, are the home team that the schedule is based on and marketed throughout the region. The other three teams will make up the opposition, forming the four-team League. The rosters for the League’s four teams consist of players that have just completed their collegiate eligibility that go undrafted in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Each year there is a surplus of players coming out of college who go undrafted. League rosters consist of these undrafted players, specifically players who have played collegiate baseball but have no college eligibility remaining. Rookie players that were released by their team during major league spring training or during the affiliated minor league season will also be eligible for League rosters. Players will only be eligible to play in the League for one season. These eligibility rules make this a true rookie league and the only one of its kind. The League fills a baseball need as all major league scouts are constantly looking for a place for such players to play. The level of play and the ages of the players will be comparable to other rookie leagues. The League employs an experienced baseball executive who acts as the Director of Player Procurement responsible for identifying and signing all players, managers and coaches. The season will begin in late June after the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. The season will take place during the time of year when kids are out of school for the summer. Games will have all the minor league hoopla, promotions, entertainment and family fun of a minor league baseball game. Family-friendly attractions will include: affordable ticket prices, a wide variety of reasonably-priced concession and merchandise items, free parking and family-friendly game start times. Other family-friendly attractions will include: visiting entertainers, giveaways and fireworks shows on select nights. All fans will be allowed to run the bases or get autographs after every game. Fans will be able to experience the history and tradition of Historic Luther Williams Field where legends such as Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson and Hank Aaron played. The end result will be an affordable, fun-filled, family-oriented entertainment experience that is on par with the most successful minor league teams.
